Brush Fire Started Near Homeless Camp In Cathedral City

The fire broke out just before Noon near East Palm Canyon just east of Cathedral Canyon in Cathedral City. The blaze burn over a 1/2 acre of dry brush at the base of the mountain. Witnesses say a homeless man was running from the area just moments after the fire started.

Captain Jeff Walsh with Cathedral City Fire Department says, “The homeless camp has a kitchen area and a living area, there are two burn lines one on each side, it is really dry out here, literally blowing on the dry brush will start it on fire.”

No one was hurt and Cathedral City Police officers on scene did not cite anyone for the fire.
