Deputy Injured In Robbery Pursuit At Westfield Shopping Town

Paramedics transported a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy to a local hospital, today, after his car crashed into a palm tree during a chase.

The deputy was pursuing a man who witnesses say robbed a woman outside the Cinemas Palm D’Or at the Westfield Shopping Town, this morning. Those witnesses say the woman turned over a bank deposit to the man, fearing he was armed.

They say the man then jumped over a wall into the nearby neighborhood north of the theatre, got into a car, and drove off. Shoppers who had chased the man jotted down his license plate number, and called police.

A nearby patrol car spotted the suspect’s car, chased him, crashing into the tree.

A police captain says the car was “totaled.” The officer suffered moderate injuries, and is expected to be fine.
