Cooler Weather Gives Way To Weekend Warmup

Temperatures were 17 degrees below average Tuesday in Palm Springs, and a record low was tied farther east in Thermal, according to the National Weather Service . The high in Thermal was 80 degrees, tying the record set in 2009, NWS meteorologist Mark Moede said, adding that the records go back to 1950.

News Channel 3 Chief Meteorologist Ginger Jeffries said the high was 78 in Palm Springs. That is 17 degrees below the seasonal average of 95.

Overnight Wednesday should be the same. Lows tonight are expected to be in the mid- to upper-50s in the Coachella Valley.

The break in temperatures was because of a low pressure system, both agreed.
