Border Patrol Agents Seize 950 Pounds Of Marijuana
Agents assigned to the Indio Station of the U.S. Border Patrol seized approximately 950 pounds of marijuana at the Highway 86 checkpoint, agents said.
The narcotics have an estimated value at approximately $760,000.
On Monday at 5:30p.m., a semi-truck hauling a trailer approached the primary inspection at the checkpoint. It was referred to the secondary inspection area after a canine team alerted to the vehicle.
In secondary, a search of the trailer revealed several cardboard containers of rotten oranges on pallets.
Agents searched the orange pallets and discovered several cellophane wrapped bundles hidden within the oranges. The bundles were found to contain marijuana and the total amount of narcotics had an estimated value of approximately $760,000.
The driver, marijuana and the semi-truck were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
