Campaign Rally Goes On, Despite Fiorina Hospitalization

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina had to cancel her trip to Coachella on Tuesday after being hospitalized for treatment of an infection stemming from reconstructive surgery she underwent after a bout with breast cancer.

Campaign officials would not specify where Fiorina, 56, is hospitalized. She had been expected to campaign in Riverside and Coachella today.

A rally planned in Coachella went on without her there.

“Carly learned more than a year and a half ago that she, like millions of women, had breast cancer,” according to a statement from her campaign. “After successfully battling cancer, she had reconstructive surgery this summer and remains cancer free today.

“However, this morning Carly came down with an infection associated with the reconstructive surgery and, as a result, she was admitted to the hospital to receive antibiotics to treat this infection. While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon.”

Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, is trying to unseat longtime Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.

“We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery and hope she is able to return to her normal schedule soon,” Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski said.

Fiorina had been scheduled to stump in Riverside today to discuss her plans for creating jobs, then move on to an early afternoon campaign stop at Old World Stone in Coachella.
