Banning Armed Robbery Netted Men Beer, Jail

Banning police arrested two men on Tuesday night after an armed robbery at a convenience store.

The incident happened at the Shopping Basket Carniceria on West Ramsey Street at 8:30 p.m.

The store clerk said two men walked into the store and refused to pay for their beer. When the clerk confronted them outside, the two threatened the clerk and his daughter with a screwdriver.

Police found a vehicle matching a description given to them by the clerk, and eventually found the two men in the 2300 block area of West Hays in Banning.

Allen Leonard, 46, of Banning and Frank Flores, 35, from Palm Springs were both arrested. Both are currently on parole for other crimes.

The suspects were booked at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and violation of parole.
