Border Patrol Agents Seize 25 Pounds Of Heroin

U.S. Border Patrol agents seized nearly 25 pounds of heroin at a checkpoint along the California/Mexico border on Monday.

A canine team working the inspection station on Interstate 8 alerted inspectors to a sport-utility vehicle even before it approached the first inspection station about 35 miles east of Calexico.

During a second search, agents discovered several packages concealed within the spare tire which was underneath the vehicle. The packages contained a brown substance which tested positive for heroin.

The heroin carried a street value of more than $825,000.

The driver, narcotics, and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
