La Quinta High School Teacher Arrested For Having Sex With Student

A teacher at La Quinta High School was arrested on Monday morning after allegations surfaced he had sex with one of his students.

David Armenta, 30, was booked in the Indio jail on charges he had sex with a minor. He was released a short time later after posting $5,000 bail.

Armenta teaches U.S. and World History at the school.

“I always knew he was a creeper, because he always flirted with the girls in my class,” said Samantha Dapiaoen, a former student.

The investigation began on Friday at 5 p.m. when the Indio Police Dept. received information that a Armenta had sex with a 17-year-old La Quinta High School student in Indio.

“There should be boundaries and if a certain individual can’t keep those boundaries, then you shouldn’t be working in a place where there’s nothing but children,” said Yvette Ambriz, a former student.

Desert Sands Unified School District Superintendent Sharon McGehee says Armenta has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

“We don’t know if its true at this point, but I think it diminishes all of us, because it just makes my heart break for the school,” said Donna Salazar, the principal.

Armenta was scheduled for arraignment on April 6, according to court and jail records.

The Indio Police Department asked for anyone who has information about this investigation to please call the Indio Police Department at (760) 391-4057 or Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP with anonymous information.
