Two More Teens Accept Plea Deal In Desert Hot Springs Stabbing Case

Two teens allegedly involved in the fatal stabbing of a Desert Hot Springs man in June 2010 during a gang-related fight outside a party have pleaded guilty to assault and been sentenced to prison.

The pleas came in an Indio courtroom on Wednesday.

Angel David Romero was sentenced to eight years in prison, while Bryan Gonzalez got a five-year term.

Another West Drive Locos gang member admitted his role in the stabbing placed in the custody of the California Youth Authority on Jan. 12 as he started serving a five- year sentence.

Ruben Alexander Chavez, 15, pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and a gang allegation and was sentenced to five years in a juvenile facility, according to John Hall of the District Attorney’s Office.

As part of a plea deal, Chavez pled guilty during a felony settlement conference.

Three others also charged in the stabbing death of 23-year-old Jose Alvarez Villalobos. David Larios, Steven Ray Arellano, Omar Hernandez, and Samuel Manuel Vallejo face a preliminary hearing next week.
