Major Crash On Highway 60 Sends Two To Hospital

Two people were hurt, one seriously, when a car flipped over and got wedged beneath a big rig this afternoon on a freeway east of Moreno Valley.

The collision was reported at 12:02 p.m. on the eastbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, between Gilman Springs Road and Jack Rabbit Trail, in an area known as the Badlands.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a maroon-colored sedan went out of control, overturned and ended up stuck underneath a semi tractor- trailer.

The sole occupant of the car suffered major injuries and had to be cut out of the wreckage by Riverside County firefighters. The victim was transported via ambulance to a hospital.

The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, authorities said.

Eastbound traffic was backed up for several miles on the 60, prompting the CHP to issue a Sigalert. Drivers were being detoured off the freeway onto Gilman Springs Road.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.
