Car Crash Near Desert Center Leaves One Dead

One person was killed and four were injured in a single-car crash on Interstate 10 near Desert Center Saturday.

Riverside County firefighters arrived at the crash on the eastbound freeway, near Red Cloud Mine Road, at around 8:15 a.m. The wreck was about 45 miles east of Indio.

Three of the four injured people were children, firefighter Cherri Patterson said.

Two of the children were taken by Mercy Air Ambulance to Loma Linda University Hospital. Their injuries were listed as “moderate,” Patterson said.

Another child, who only suffered minor injuries, was taken by ground ambulance to a closer hospital, she said.

A California Highway Patrol H-60 helicopter took an adult patient to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with moderate injuries.

No ages or names were released. Firefighters needed heavy cutting equipment to recover the dead person’s body, Patterson said.
