SunLine Bus Drivers & Mechanics Vote On New Contract

SunLine Transit Agency bus drivers and mechanics are casting their votes on a new contract. After working without a contract for the past 3 years, close to 200 members of ATU Local 1277 are weighing in on SunLine’s latest proposal.

On the table, SunLine is offering a 1% salary increase for each of the next two years, plus a one time $500.00 advancement. “An offer like this, it’s just like take it or leave it and we don’t think it’s a credible offer. Frankly it’s an insult,” said Neal Silver, the President of ATU Local 1277.

SunLine’s General Manager Mikel Oglesby says at least the transit company is offering some kind of pay increase. “Due to to our economic times 0% is the norm offered by transit agencies across the nation. Our offer was given in good faith and in an effort to demonstrate that SunLine cares for its employees,” said Oglesby.

Still, the union maintains the impasse is over more than money. It’s looking for several concessions from SunLine that are not included in the current offer.
