Palm Springs Power to return in 2021 after missing 2020 season due to coronavirus

“I get goosebumps just thinking about baseball being back,” said Palm Springs Power's manager Casey Dill.
After missing the 2020 season because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Palm Springs Power is returning in 2021 with Opening Day set for Friday, June 11 here at Palm Springs Stadium.
“Really excited to have everybody back in the ballpark and enjoying America’s pastime,” said Palm Springs Power owner and president Andrew Starke.
Starke says he’s excited to welcome fans in accordance with state and local health guidelines at the time of each game this summer. The season will run through July 17 with a little over 20 games in total, that is down compared to the usual 30 to 35 games.
“I’ve missed seeing all the smiling faces, kids running around, all of our friends that we’ve had out here for almost two decades being a part of Power baseball,” he said.
“The community loves this baseball team, that’s a big reason why I love managing here,” Dill said.
Manager Casey Dill says there more talent and specifically local talent that will be playing for the Power this season than ever before.
“There’s better players out there, more players out there, less roster spots than there ever have been,” Dill said.
That’s because many summer collegiate teams around the county have struggled to find host families, something the Power does not require. Instead, this year’s Power players will be staying at a lodging facility.
“Players are more excited to play baseball this summer than they ever have been before. Some haven’t stepped back on a field since COVID cancelled everything over a year ago and even if they did step back on a field, they’ve played less baseball in the last year than they probably ever have been in their lives, so the amount of excitement and the caliber of player that is reaching out to us this year is very exciting and it’s awesome to know that they’re truly thankful and excited to come play baseball in Palm Springs,” Dill said.
