Palm Springs Int’l Short Film Fest Launches Online Voting

Making the cut at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival requires emotion.

“If we’re watching the film,” said Film Curator Kathleen McInnis, “and it touches us somewhere, it gets to move on to the next level.”

Over 3,000 entries were submitted this year, but only 331 of them will be screened.

They’re grouped into 52 genres.

“I like to see the things I normally cannot get to see,” said Roy Boucher, of Palm Springs. “So, I’ve signed up to see ‘Twisted Toons’.”

In the festival’s 17-year history, 80 entries went on to earn an Academy Award nomination.

This year, the festival is launching its first ever online film festival.

Ten films were selected for this category. The public can start voting for their favorite entry from Tuesday through Sunday.

The winner of the Online Audience Award will be announced at the awards ceremony on closing night.

An average of 25,000 spectators attend the ShortFest every year, making it one of the largest and most prominent short film festivals in North America.

All screenings will occur at Camelot Theatres, 2300 E. Baristo Road.
