Firefighters Contain Brush Fire Near Whitewater
Cal Fire confirms to News Channel 3 firefighters contained a brush fire off of Interstate 10, just west of Whitewater Canyon.
The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. and consumed about 80 acres.
Cal Fire launched a full response, including 123 firefighters and 26 engines, according to spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.
Full containment was reached by 2 p.m and full control was expected by 6 p.m..

Firefighters were working in hot temperatures throughout the day. At 4 p.m., it was 108 degrees at the Palm Springs International Airport.
One lane of Interstate 10 was shut down by crews as they battled the flames, as was Tamarack Road at Haughen-Lehman.
There were no injuries in the fire fight and no homes were ever in danger, according to Hagemann.
