Bicyclist Hit And Killed In Rancho Mirage

Riverside County Shierff’s Deputies were investigating a deadly collision in Rancho Mirage, after a man on a bicycle crashed into a pick-up truck, killing the bicyclist.

According to officials, it happened just before 11:00 P.M. Saturday night, at the intersection of Highway 111 and Atrium Way.

Sheriff’s Deputies say a 41 year-old Hispanic man was riding a bicycle heading east, in the westbound lanes of the street, when he collided with an on-coming pick-up.

A News Channel 3 viewer sent in a picture from the scene, where you can see emergency crews quickly working to rush the man to the hospital. But once he arrived, the victim was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

No word if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Deputies have also not released any details on what happened to the driver of the pickup involved in the crash.

Officials would like to remind all bicycle riders to keep aware of their surroundings, travel with the flow of traffic, and wear safety helmets.
