Firefighters Put Out 95-Acre Fire North Of Palm Springs

Firefighters have the upper hand on the Cabazon Fire that burned over 65-acres of west of Haugen Lehmen and north of Interstate 10.

The fire started just after noon along the highway. The fire quickly grew from 4-acres to 95. It could be seen from many parts of the Coachella Valley.

Fire crews said the soft dirt restricted firefighters from driving their trucks into the burn zone. Instead they let the fire burn itself out.

That happened when it got to already-charred brush from a different fire a month ago.

Firefighters stationed a fire truck near one home in the area. They report it was never threatened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters say several other spot fires were reported along Interstate 10.

One lane of I-10 was shut down near the fire. It has since been reopened.
