Health Matters Conference Kicks Off Humana Challenge PGA Tour

Celebrity guest speakers arrived in town on Monday ahead of the Clinton Foundation’s inaugural Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation Conference at the Renaissance Esmerelda Indian Wells Resort and Spa, which will kick off the Humana Challenge PGA Tour event.

President Bill Clinton, his daughter Chelsea and Goldie Hawn are among the headliners scheduled to talk.

The guest speakers said they hope their lifestyle changes will inspire others to do the same.

“I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease,” said Reed Alexander, 17, an actor and creator of www.kewlbites.com.

About two years ago, Alexander was overweight and feeling lethargic, he decided to get in the kitchen, and change his diet.

He created his own recipes, and has since lost 15 pounds.

Alexander then started up his website to share his work in the kitchen with others and to inspire young people to make healthy choices at home and at school.

“Like whole grains versus out on the track field and in the gym,” said Alexander, who is best known for his role on Nickeldeon’s television show, “iCarly.”

He’s worked with the organization Alliance for a Healtheir Generation for more than a year and a half, which is the Clinton Foundation’s largest domestic program.

He’s gone school to school to demonstrate ways to stay fit by taking charge behind the stove.

“This conference is about activating wellness in every generation,” said Ginny Ehrlich, CEO of Healthier Generation.

The celebrity speakers will put a face to success stories of overcoming health problems by making smarter choices, said Ehrlich.

By having young people like Alexander share their stories, as well as president Clinton and Dr. Deepak Chopra scheduled to give speeches, Ehrlich said the ideas developed will help those watching the event streamed live at www.clintonfoundation.org.

“Like starting a walking club in their community, or corporate solutions like making systemic changes that are gonna make health and well-being more accessible to all of us,” said Ehrlich.
