Bob Hope Memorial Trophy Unveiled At Humana Challenge
The Bob Hope Memorial Trophy, which will be presented to the winner of the Humana Challenge PGA tournament each year was unveiled Thursday — the first day of the tournament.
Linda Hope, the late comedian’s daughter, had the honor of lifting the curtain that hid it from the public.
“It really is impressive and something I think really keeps the history of all of this and dad’s name alive in a really contemporary and wonderful way,” said Hope after the ceremony.
John Foster, president of the board of Desert Classic Charities, Mike McCallister, chairman and chief executive officer of Humana, and trophy artist Kenneth von Roenn joined Hope in describing what the trophy means to them.
“It embodies the spirit and wholeness of a healthy lifestyle and captures the essence of the message surrounding the Humana Challenge,” they said in a prepared statement.
Bob Hope died in 2003 at the age of 100, and his wife, Dolores, died last year at the age of 102.
Many say Hope’s name defined the tournament since it first teed off in 1959.
The tournament changed names to the Humana Challenge this year after the Humana Insurance Company signed an eight-year sponsorship agreement.
The trophy will be awarded on Sunday when the tournament wraps up.
