Health Fair Shows How to Stay Active With Age
Physical therapist Paul Bray said, “The body is a ‘use it or lose it’ proposition,” adding that we make that choice.
Desert Regional’s “Live Your Life More Active” health fair quickly filled with people eager to use it.
“We want to keep active, and not get to the point where we can’t do that, because we really enjoy it,” Donna Richardson said.
“By keeping people as active as possible, and there’s so many resources in the desert, people maintain a higher level of fitness, and a better quality of life,” Bray said.
Active, whether it’s around the house or with some healthy competition.
A focus of the event is health in athletics, particularly regarding the sport played round the desert.
“We’re golfers, and we have some issues as we age and play golf,” golfer Daryl Hayward said.
“The spine is the core of the golf swing, and a lot of people have back problems. The challenge is to learn how to work through those problems,” orthopedic surgeon David Duffner said.
Helping with that process – LPGA pro Patty Curtiss.
She uses the “K-vest”, which helps people return to golf with no pain.
“It is a 3D motion-capture and training system,” Curtiss said. “It helps people find that position that they need to get into, whether it’s a setup, static position or a position that’s in the middle of a golf swing.”
Bottom line – age is a number, golf is a passion, and, if done correctly, the two fit like a glove.
