Quarantine Lifted, Polo Back On In Indio
A polo horse quarantine that started Jan. 25 is now over.
This after a 2 1/2 week quarantine that started when a horse at the Empire Polo Club had a case of equine herpes in January. All polo matches at the Empire and Eldorado Polo Clubs stopped.
The quarantine was originally supposed to end at the beginning of the week until a groomer found a horse with a fever causing the quarantine to be extended.
“One of the horses that had played in a practice game on Sunday at Eldorado came up with a fever and swollen back legs. While that can be a sign of a lot of things, it can also be the sign of the EHV1 infection.”
Manno took a blood test and a nasal swab and sent it up to UC Davis where a state-run lab will do another test.
“Frustrated is a good word. We’re just worn out, we just all want to get back to business as usual. The horses and the people both,” Manno said.
The test results came back negative, and the State Animal Health Department is releasing the quarantine. Polo is back on.
