Small Earthquake Shakes Area Near Salton Sea

A small earthquake measuring 3.0 in magnitude rattled the area near the Salton Sea on Monday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake happened at 11:37 a.m. on the eastern shores of the Salton Sea, not far from the town of Niland.

There were no reports of any damage or injuries.

The quake was followed by two more smaller earthquakes measuring 2.0 in intensity.

According to USGS maps, the quake happened along the San Andreas Fault, which rises to the eastern side of the Coachella Valley.
