Firefighters Battle House Fire In Indio
Eight people were left without a home on Tuesday after a fire spread from one unit to another, burning through both homes.
Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann detailed the situation in her incident report.
She indicated firefighters were called to the 83300 block of Emerald Avenue in Indio, which is near the intersection of Jackson Street and Avenue 44, just after 2 p.m.
Two homes were on fire when they arrived.
As firefighters battled the flames, paramedics treated an 18-year-old for smoke inhalation at the scene, Hagemann wrote.
It took the team of 45 firefighters about 40 minutes to knock down the fire in both units, but their speed wasn’t enough to save the homes.
Tuesday night, eight people were looking for a new place to live — forced out by the fire and damage.
Investigators said the fire started in a common area between the two homes. The cause is still under investigation.
