High Wind Warning Covers Palm Springs, Kraft Nabisco Championship
A low-pressure system coming in from the Pacific Ocean is pushing winds into the desert, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a high wind warning until 10 a.m. Sunday.
The valley could experience winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with isolated gusts of 70 mph possible, and that could lead to reduced visibility along Interstate 10 because of swirling sand and dust, the forecaster said.
A NWS forecaster predicted a 50 percent chance of showers in the Inland Empire tonight, with light winds between 5 and 10 miles per hour. The rain should clear out by Sunday morning, to give way to mostly sunny skies and a high near 67.
The winds are expected to decrease by mid-morning Sunday, he said.
As of 2:30 p.m. Saturday, play at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage had not been affected.
