Riverside County final election results to be posted Monday

Riverside County’s final election results will be posted Monday, nearly three weeks after Election Day, the county Registrar of Voters announced Wednesday.
Democratic emergency room doctor Raul Ruiz kept his lead over Rep. Mary Bono Mack in the race for the redrawn 36th Congressional District seat. Ruiz had 52.9 percent of the votes over Bono Mack’s 47.1 percent, according to updated totals released today by the Registrar of Voters.
Ruiz had gradually been widening his lead as votes were counted — he now has more than 12,000 votes more than Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs. Bono Mack conceded on Nov. 9, signaling the end of her 14 years in public office.
The county still has to process provisional 5,000 ballots, and final certified results will be posted at 6 p.m. Monday.
“Those ballots require even more extensive research than other provisional ballots because they involve voters who went to an incorrect polling place or whose address changed,” a statement on the registrar of voters’ website said. “Work on these ballots will continue over the weekend.”
