City of Indio to unveil public art project

The city of Indio will unveil a dome-shaped public art project today.
“Oculus Sol: Eye of the Sun” will be dedicated and illuminated with lights at 4:30 p.m. at the southeast corner of Jackson Street and Highway 111. The unveiling is free and open to the public, according to city spokesman Chris Escobedo.
Artist Buster Simpson is expected to attend the dedication, then give a lecture and hold an art workshop at the Coachella Valley Art Center, 45-140 Towne St.
“The public is encouraged to be ready with their creativity, as the art workshop will allow attendees to create their own Oculus Sol-inspired art,” Escobedo said.
People going to the ceremony should park on Marshall Street adjacent to the artwork site, he said.
