Two pedestrians killed in weekend collisions

Police were investigating two deadly collisions involving pedestrians Sunday. One killed an elderly woman in Desert Hot Springs, another died earlier in Cathedral City.

The Riverside County Coroners Office says Van Zitek, 72, of Palm Springs was struck by a motorist in Cathedral City along the 67400 block of East Palm Canyon Drive just south of Golf Club Drive early Sunday Morning at 6:14 a.m.

He was pronounced dead minutes later at the scene.

Another woman died in an unrelated collision later the same night along the 14500 block of Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs. She was later identified as Anna Bilous, 85, of Desert Hot Springs.

Bilous was struck by a motorist in a sedan.

Authorities had no other details on the collisions or any word on possible charges against the drivers involved.
