Suspected DUI driver passes out behind wheel

A suspected drunken driver allegedly passed out behind the wheel of his car, on the wrong side of a divided avenue, in front of the College of the Desert Sunday, according to police.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 5:19 a.m. to Monterey Avenue near Parkview Drive. The driver, later identified as Adam Edward Trainor, 22, of Palm Desert, had been headed south on Monterey Avenue but had driven over the raised center median, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Radek Horkel said.

Trainor’s mid-size car continued moving down the wrong side of the divided roadway before it stopped in front of the community college. No other vehicle was struck during the predawn incident.

Trainor was taken to a local hospital for non-serious injuries and later arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, Horkel said.
