DUI suspect arrested after hitting business sign in Palm Desert

A 22-year-old Palm Desert man was arrested today forallegedly striking a business sign while driving under the influence andrunning from the scene.

The crash was reported about 1:50 a.m. at Country Club Drive and HarrisLane. A Toyota Camry was being driven east on Country Club when the motoriststruck a median, drove up a curb and down into a ravine, sheriff’s Sgt. RadekHorkel said.

“The vehicle continued traveling through the ravine and striking abusiness sign belonging to the Sure Save Self Storage,” Horkel said.

The vehicle stopped in front of a nearby apartment building and thedriver ran into the complex. Deputies found him in the complex, Horkel said.

The driver, Mark Adam Lopez, was taken to a hospital for treatment ofinjuries and was later arrested. A preliminary investigation showed alcohol wasa factor in the crash, Horkel said. No other injuries were reported.

Lopez was booked into county jail in Indio and later posted a $2,500bond, according to jail records.
