Riverside County deputies shoot, kill man

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies have shot and killed a man they say tried to run them over.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says no deputies were hurt in Tuesday’s confrontation.

Sgt. Lisa McConnell says a report of a man shooting at a home sent deputies to the Glen Avon area of Jurupa Valley at around 3:15 p.m.

McConnell says the gunman drove away before deputies arrived but authorities later spotted the car, a burgundy Pontiac.

McConnell says deputies opened fire as the car accelerated toward them.

The driver died at the scene. His name wasn’t immediately released.
