Last chance to ride the Palm Springs Tram before annual maintenance

Today is the last day to ride the Palm SpringsAerial Tramway before it closes for three weeks for annual maintenance work.

The tram will close on Saturday and reopen on Aug. 31. The first cartoday goes up at 10 a.m.

“This year we are having our shutdown in August because of thecelebration of our 50th anniversary during the month of September,” said tramGeneral Manager Rob Parkins. “Our projects this year will include exchangingthe tram cars carriage, which is done every six years, plus we will becleaning, refurbishing and painting various locations throughout the Valley andMountain stations.”

The tram closed on Tuesday because of a brush fire that started near thetram’s upper parking lot and burned uphill, charring 60 acres before it wasfully contained on Wednesday.
