Cathedral City construction in the works on Ramon Rd. and new businesses
Traffic may be backed up on Ramon Road in Cathedral City, but Mayor Kathy DeRosa said Tuesday road construction is on schedule.
Joane Garcia–Coleson, the owner and executive chef at Dish Creative Cuisine on Ramon and Cathedral Canyon said “It’s a headache. It’s an inconvenience. It takes longer to get here. Right now, it’s a nightmare.”
She and her employees are gearing up to re-open for their restaurant’s second season on Friday.
“We’re really looking forward to our new items for our guests, I’m hoping this construction gets done soon so it’s not as inconvenient for people,” she said.
Some good news, the road work expected to be completed by October.
It’s not the city’s only project in the works. A Family Dollar store is already under construction at the corner of Date Palm Drive and McCallum.
Workers are also making big strides on the new Volkswagen dealership in the Cathedral City Auto Center.
“There will be road construction on Highway 111, the widening of 111 when Volkswagen is done, and then Eagle Canyon Dam is under construction,” said DeRosa.
Plus, a 7-Eleven is coming soon to Cathedral Canyon. The goal is for it to be a neighborhood market, opening this fall.
Street improvements and several new businesses in the works could mean new hope for the city.
“I hope they continue to look for some upscale shopping to provide that in the city, but I think it’s really good they’re improving infrastructure and trying to grow,” said Garcia-Coleson.
The city cautions drivers to expect road closures at the intersection of Date Palm and Ramon from 7 p.m. To 7 a.m. next Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday Sept. 10. Motorists are encouraged to use Dinah Shore or expect major delays.
