Palm Springs plans events in run-up to Modernism Week

The run-up to Palm Springs Modernism Week willinclude walking, biking and bus tours of the region’s architectural gems,cocktail parties, a lecture and a “yard sale,” the executive directorannounced today.

“Fall Season Kick-Off” events, scheduled Oct. 11-14, are aimed atpriming the pump for the main event in February. Reservations are required, anda full schedule of events is posted at www.modernismweek.com.

Modernism Week is scheduled Feb. 13-23 and celebrates the popular designaesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s.

The fall kick-off starts Oct. 11 with a double-decker bus tour, one ofModernism Week’s calling cards.

The Modernism Yard Sale on Oct. 12 will feature vendors that specializein mid-century items and local homeowners who have “cleaned out theirclosets,” event spokesman Tim O’Bayley said.

On Oct. 12, 13 and 14, people can take bike and walking tours of Mid-Century buildings, inns, celebrity homes and houses designed by well-knownarchitects.
