Parolee taken into custody after barricading himself inside underground bunker in Banning

A Banning man is facing charges accused of violating his parole.

Police arrested 37-year-old Rodney Nottingham on Wednesday around noon.

Officers were called to his home on the 43000 block of Mesa Street in Banning to investigate a possible theft.

Police say Nottingham ran away as deputies tried to talk to him.

Nottingham then barricaded himself in a concrete underground bunker.

A SWAT team was called in after Nottingham failed to come out.

When SWAT moved in, a woman not wanted for any crime exited the bunker and surrendered. Nottingham later surrendered and was taken into custody.

After further investigation, authorities say Nottingham had negligently discharged three rounds from a semi-automatic handgun before deputies arrived.

He was booked into the Banning jail for parole violation, being a felon in possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner.
