College of the Desert holds Veterans Ceremony today

College of the Desert’s Student Veterans Organization will hold its fifth annual Veterans Day ceremony Thursday.

The 12:30 p.m. ceremony will be held in COD’s amphitheater, between the Cravens Student Services Center and the communication buildings.

C. Douglas Kroll, an associate history professor, will give a presentation on the history of Veterans Day and the armed forces, and flags will be displayed for each branch of service.

Kroll, a U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduate and former Coast Guard officer, is the author of “Commodore Ellsworth P. Bertholf: First Commandant of the Coast Guard” and “A Coastguardsman’s History of the Coast Guard.” He is also a faculty adviser to COD’s Student Veterans Organization.

About 200 veterans attend COD, and its Bighorn Golf Charities Veterans Resource Center opened last year, according to the college.
