Local bull run canceled
One Southern California city has nixed a Pamplona-style bull running event because of safety concerns.
The Riverside Press Enterprise reports Lake Elsinore City Manager Grant Yates said Wednesday he denied an application for the event slated for March 8. The city received hundreds of emails from people worried that participants could be injured.
The Great Bull Run mirrors the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, where people run in front of a herd of toros let loose in the streets. Organizers say they toned down the U.S. version by creating escape routes for runners and blunting the animal’s horn tips.
The organizers have held two bull runs this year in Virginia and Georgia. They have five days to appeal the decision to the City Council.
