Freeze and Hard Freeze Warnings in effect for the high deserts. Frost expected in low deserts.
An arctic airmass digging into the Southwest will bring the first freeze of the year for many Southern California cities over the next few nights. Joshua Tree National Park is under a Freeze Warning while high desert cities to the north are under a Hard Freeze Warning.
Overnight lows are expected to drop to the 20’s in those high desert locations, which can potentially damage crops and sensitive plants. Take preventative measures to reduce impacts from this cold snap by bringing pets indoors, checking on the elderly, and covering exposed plumbing if applicable.
The lower deserts including the Coachella Valley will likely see lows in the 30’s for the next several nights, with patchy frost expected. Frost can also damage crops and sensitive plants, so valley residents should take similar steps to protect their pets and porperty.
