Hot weather prompts three separate rescues on Mt. San Jacinto

California State Parks rescue team was called three separate times Saturday to pull people off aMt. San Jacintotrail.

It all started about 10:00 a.m., crews were called to the skyline route for several hikers struggling.

The strenuous hike starts on the valley floor in Palm Springs, then ends in Mt. San JacintoState Park.

One of the six hikers found was suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration.

The rescue team escorted them to the top of the trail that’s when a group of three males called for help.

They had no water and were also dehydrated.

The volunteer crew was finishing their second rescue of the day when a 31-year-old male hiker called 911 for help.

The San Diego man got separated from a friend during a hike near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, sprained his ankle and was later rescued by two helicopters.

Sheriff’s deputies say the hiker also bumped his head when he stumbled along the Skyline Trail.

The hiker, Louie Terrazas, sent a text message to his wife who then alerted deputies.

Deputies, state park rangers and the crew of a sheriff’s helicopter scrambled to find Terrazas. By 3:16 p.m., the helicopter crew spotted Terrazas.

Park rangers were flown to the location and found Terrazas severely sprained his ankle and suffered a minor head injury.

He was flown by a second helicopter crew by 6 p.m. to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No word on his condition.
