Border Patrol agent rescues woman in submerged car

A woman was pulled from her car on Sunday after it plunged into a canal in El Centro, authorities said in a statement.

The incident happened around 1:20 p.m.

Agents said the 24-year-old woman somehow lost control of her car and drove into the canal at the intersection of Evan Hughes Highway and Austin Road.

The first agent on scene saw the car almost completely submerged.

After jumping in the canal, he found the woman unconscious in the driver’s seat. Officials said he pulled the woman to safety and performed CPR on the canal bank until she regained consciousness.

Emergency crews with CHP and the Imperial County Fire and Rescue Team arrived soon after and took the woman to the hospital.

Agents didn’t release any additional information regarding the woman’s condition. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
