Green event planned today in Palm Desert

Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus will host its annual Environmental and Sustainability Expo for local students starting today.

The fifth annual event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Indian Wells Theater. Pamela Clute, who lectures on education and mathematics at UC Riverside, will speak at 5:30 p.m. to start the expo and, on Friday, students can learn about working in “green” fields from various organizations, according to campus spokesman Mike Singer.

Students from the Palm Springs Unified School District also will screen their environment-related digital films on both days, and attendees can tour the Health Sciences Building, which is LEED gold certified, one of the highest ratings available from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The event will be attended by representatives from the Southern California Gas Co., U.S. Green Building Council, Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, Coachella Valley Water District, California Department of Food and Agriculture, SunLine Transit Agency, The Living Desert, Bureau of Land Management, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and Friends of the Desert Mountains.
