Free shuttle service approved for Palm Springs
At Wednesday night’s meeting, the Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved a new shuttle service that will transport residents and visitors around the city for free.
The new Compressed Natural Gas-powered trolley is called the ‘Palm Springs Buzz’. It’s being funded by Measure J and PS Resorts.
According to the officials, the Palm Springs Buzz is slated to begin in November and it will run every 15 minutes on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will run from the Parker Palm Springs to Racquet Club Road, traveling along Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive so residents and visitors can shed their vehicles.
City officials said the new social transportation experience is sure to create some major ‘BUZZ’ thanks to a colorful design with a mid-century modern flair that will perfectly capture the iconic style of Palm Springs.
The city is still deciding between three proposed designs.
“The PS BUZZ represents the city’s next step in its continued evolution as the premiere resort destination in Southern California,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “It will allow residents and visitors alike to move conveniently from our exciting uptown and downtown to the swingin’ south end along with the up-and-coming north end.”
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 reported on the free shuttle service when it was first proposed in May. Residents we spoke to were excited about the idea becoming a reality.
“We have a lot of tourists and that will cut down on traffic, not only that, the people that are indulging in alcohol would also have a way to and from and up and down,” said Katrina Parham, who lives in Desert Hot Springs.
