Liquid determined to be water with green dye

A bright green liquid coming out of a storm drain was reported Wednesday morning in front of Desert Regional Medical Center.

The Palm Springs Police Department and firefighters were called to the scene at about 11:45 a.m. and a hazmat crew was also called to investigate the incident.

According to an official with the Public Works Department, the mysterious substance turned out to be water condensation with green dye in it.

Palm Springs Battalion Chief David Rees said the green dye was a leak-detecting additive that officials with Desert Regional Medical Center added to a water source in an attempt to determine a water flow issue at one of their buildings.

Rees said the additive was safe and never posed a danger to the community.

Tachevah Drive was closed between Indian Canyon Drive and Via Miraleste for about a half hour while crews investigated. The road was reopened at 1:10 p.m.
