Fire burns Southern California residential construction site
UPLAND, Calif. (AP) — Southern California fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a huge blaze that destroyed or damaged eight apartment-style buildings that were under construction and damaged an occupied nearby apartment building. San Bernardino County Fire says the pre-dawn Wednesday blaze burned near multiple large apartment complexes housing hundreds of residents in Upland. Fire reached the attic of one occupied two-story apartment building and the damage displaced 25 residents. The Red Cross was called in to assist those people. Authorities say damage estimates are not available but the losses are significant. Officials note that more than a dozen threatened structures were saved during the intense firefight.
