Gunshots send Walmart shoppers running for safety

Shoppers at a Northern California Walmart got more than they bargained for when a man accused of shoplifting allegedly opened fire inside the store.

No one was injured by the shots that rang out at the San Leandro store late Sunday. But witnesses tell a local TV station that frightened customers screamed and ran to a room in the back to hide.

According to one eye-witness, the shooting began after a security guard confronted two men whom he suspected of shoplifting. A scuffle ensued and one of the men pulled out a gun.

The suspects were arrested at the store, located 10 miles south of Oakland.
