Hwy 111 reopens in Rancho Mirage after motorcycle crash

Eastbound lanes of Highway 111 near Country Club Drive were temporarily closed to traffic Tuesday morning after a motorcyclist crashed into a mini van in Rancho Mirage.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. at Highway 111 and Peterson Road, just west of Country Club Drive.

There were two men riding motorcycles in the area and one of them failed to stop at a red light. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 spoke to the rider who stopped at the red light. He said his friend didn’t see the light change because the sun was in his eyes. He continued driving, eventually striking the side of the minivan, which was making a left turn.

The motorcyclist is fine aside from some bumps and bruises. The person driving the minivan wasn’t injured.

Highway 111 reopened around 12 p.m. as soon as officers cleared the wreckage.
