Motorcyclist arrested after attempting to evade police

Heavy police activity took over a Palm Springs neighborhood Wednesday afternoon while officers were searching for a motorcyclist who attempted to evade them along I-10.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were only trying to pull the man over because he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The rider sped away and led CHP on a pursuit down Gene Autry Trail. Officers said he ditched the bike near a neighborhood and began jumping fences along Whitewater Club Drive near Los Alamos Way.

After briefly searching the neighborhood, officers with CHP and the Palm Springs Police Department found the suspect hiding in a woman’s backyard and arrested him. Police haven’t released his identity yet.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 learned that the motorcycle was reported stolen out of Desert Hot Springs in November. We’ll have more details as soon as they’re available.
