Mugshot released of suspect accused of shooting man walking dog

A man is in critical condition and another is behind bars after a shooting took place in Desert Hot Springs on the evening of Tuesday, March 3.

Officers said the shooting happened near the intersection of Mission Lakes Boulevard and Sonora Drive around 8:50 p.m. Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He said he was shot while walking his dog.

The victim was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

Officers received details about the suspect’s car and found a matching vehicle near the crime scene. After inspecting the vehicle, officers found the suspect, 34-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident William Frances Azevedo, and arrested him without incident.

They also found the firearm that was used in the shooting.

Azevedo was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on multiple charges including attempted murder.
