Governor Brown and UC President to give update on university system finances
Gov. Jerry Brown and University of California President Janet Napolitano are preparing to brief the rest of the university’s governing board on the progress they have made in ironing out their differences over UC’s budget.
The two leaders have met twice since the Board of Regents named them as the sole members of a committee charged with recommending possible changes is how the university is structured and spends its money. The governor requested the inquiry after a majority of the board gave Napolitano approval to increase student tuition by up to 5 percent in each of the next five years, a plan Brown opposed.
Napolitano and Brown’s staffs have refused to comment on the discussions, but the two are scheduled to give an update on their work at a regents meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday.
