PSPD: man kidnaps ex-girlfriend, beats her in car

Palm Springs police saved a woman from her ex-boyfriend after he allegedly kidnapped her, beat her, and drove to Whitewater.

Police say the suspect, 36-year-old Jeffrey George Woodfield from Palm Springs, forced the woman into his car sometime before 6 p.m. Friday evening on the 1700 block of east Vista Chino.

Police say Woodfield, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, then drove the woman to the Whitewater Rest Stop, physically beating her along the way.

When Woodfield stopped at the rest stop, police say the victim got out of the car and called 911 on her cell phone.

The suspect was later located about a half a mile west of the rest stop on Interstate 10 in the vehicle. Woodfield was ultimately arrested and taken to Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on multiple charges, including kidnapping, terrorist threats, and robbery. He is being held without bail.

The victim was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Palm Springs Police Department is asking that if anyone has information about this crime to please contact the Palm Springs Police Department at (760)323-8115 or Crime Stoppers at (760)341-STOP.
