Plans for new additions to Indian Wells Tennis Garden include new stadium and museum

The 2015 BNP Paribas Open may be over, but plans to make the event bigger and better for years to come are already underway. Tournament Director, Steve Simon, announced plans to build a new stadium that will include retail space and a tennis museum.

“We’ve already done the suites in the main stadium, we have the restaurants in Stadium 2 and in Stadium 3 it will be retail and a museum,” said Simon.

The new Stadium Three will seat around 5,000 people and could be ready as early as next year.

“That’s the most imminent next improvement here and we’re ready to go we’re waiting for final approvals from obviously the city, who has been very supportive, as well as Mr. Ellison,” explained Simon.

The tournament also plans to make all the tents that house retail and dining space around the tournament permanent structures.

“I don’t know exactly if it will be 2016 or the future but the long range plan is everything here will be permanent and built out,” said Simon.

That will, of course, also bring jobs to the community — and help the tournament to fulfill its goal to become the best in the world.

“We have an amazing footprint here,” concluded Simon. “We’re unique because this was designed specific for this event and for that whole idea of intimacy.”
